Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

I finally gave into the hype and read this book a couple weeks before the sequel's release. I honestly was ready for it to be a BookTok overhyped epic failure but ended up loving it. Was a lot of it predictable? Yes. Was it the cliche enemies to lover's trope? Yes. Did it have numerous names that I can't pronounce? Sure did. Did it have a few chapters of descriptive smut that I normally speed through. Yep. Although, the lightning thing was more humorous than sexy. And I guess that sums up while I liked it so much. It didn't take itself too seriously. It had the right amount of action, romance, humor, sadness, and thrill. I read it two days and even when I knew what was going to happen, I was entertained watching it unfold. And that is what books are supposed to do. Entertain us. Looking forward to reading Iron Flame.
