Remarkably Bright Creatures Cover

Remarkably Bright Creatures, an exploration of friendship, reckoning, and hope, tracing a widow's unlikely connection with a giant Pacific octopus.

I really wanted to love this book. I heard great things about and was super excited when I found it at a yard sale for $1. Glad I only spent a $1. I didn't love it. But I didn't hate it. It was just a solid 3 stars for me. A feel-good book about two people struggling to find their current place in life....and then finding it in each other. An older woman whose husband has passed, and friends are moving. And a man-child who is looking for his biological dad to bail him out.

I was hesitant about reading a book that had chapters in the POV of an octopus but ended up finding him charming and wishing there were more chapters from his POV. Sadly, there really wasn't considering the title and jacket.

In the beginning I thought the book was taking artistic license regarding how the Octopus was acting. Then I went down the Google rabbit hole and not only are they actually remarkably bright creatures, but they are amazing and beautiful. And now I want one as a pet and follow one on TikTok. Go figure.
